plein-air sketches from my upcoming show:"Up Close and Personal"Please contact for purchase inquiries.
En Plein air,“in the open air”,
is about ritual:
finding beauty, setting up,
and recording from life,
as quickly as possible.
It is about capturing a moment
and stirring the emotions.
It’s the discovery of visual language,
and sharing it
in the most elegant way possible.
These sketches are highly personal,
like diary pages, representing
the best way to see,
the consummate skill and hand
of an artist.
The light changes in 2-3 hours.
That is the amount of time
I have to work,

In 2004, he moved to Asheville, NC to pursue his passions and again spend his days drawing. It was then that he sought out the Master artist Benjamin F. Long, one of the most notable apprentices of the great Italian Maestro, Pietro Annigoni. Both Annigoni and Ben Long are often cited as the greatest living artistic draughtsmen of their time. Jory began his formal training as a student of Ben's school and later became apprenticed to him and a member of his team producing fresco works in the United States and Italy.
Jory continued his formal artistic education studying for one year at both The Florence Academy of Art and with Sergey Chubirko at The Russian Academy of Art.
He has been living in Italy for the past 9 years, traveling around the world painting and drawing and continuing his personal artistic studies. It was during this period that he met his wife, Tamara Jonjic, and had his first son, Moss.
Jory, and his family, are moving to Nashville in 2015 in order to paint locally and relocate his studio to the United States.
